One problem with having a day off of school was Afton's long awaited biography project was delayed 5 days. We had found this costume on Amazon. She was excited to dress up. She had worked for about 4 weeks to read the book and prepare the report documents. I got there early to make sure she was all put together and looking great.
She was the first presentation of the show. She did a great job. Addie made her practice her speech at home. She did well sharing with the attendees. A few pictures of her classmates. There was Cooper sharing about Davy Crockett.
Emberlee was Estee Lauder. That was new I have never seen a presentation about the make-up leader.
This young Princess Diana did a great job. I felt old remembering the history she was reading about in her presentation.
There was a John Deere report. The young boys in attendance were so interested int he large tractor behind him. I remembered when my son John was John Deere years ago.
But with many queens in the room I always remember my Aliza as Queen Elizabeth. A peek of Mark as Abraham Lincoln when he was a young first grader. I was touched by the power of this blog record to be able to skim through years and find how the older kids had also participated. These have been special events over the years. I'm thankful for teachers who are willing to persevere with a class of students. I was happy to see a good turn out yesterday.
And on another level Reed was also shown by his teacher with his classmates as sharing their views on non-fiction literature. Reed learned about Earnest Shackleton. His peers talked about vitamins and nutrition.
I think research is so fun. Last night we learned about how the city of Venice Italy is engineered. We looked that up after reading a Berenstein bear book together before bed. I'm thankful for the opportunities my kids have. I wrestle with the obvious failings of public education and the good things that come from it. We work to supplement at home and always seek to be learning and improving, and adding kindness, service, and respect wherever we go. We are blessed in our journeys. After being good in the biography presentation the three kids at home had a great time playing on the school toys. Merle was able to run up all the slides, Lia was able to hang on the balance objects, and Andrea maneuvered all she wanted independently. All my kids are growing up! That is such a joy to watch.
