Birthday and Painting the House

ON the way to church Sunday Merle told us grandpa had chosen to have carrot cake and Aunt Alena was going to make it for his birthday party. We said oh that's nice, grandpa does enjoy carrot cake. When Greg told his mom this after hcurch she was surprised saying she knew of no such plans. She called Alena who was willing to oblige, and invited us for the party Merle had imagined should happen. Millie provided her german chocolate cake as well.
Many of the kids had shared their testimonies in the ward meeting. Evander, Eloise, Myla, Merle, Alia, Millie, Addie, and Greg to be specific. Grandpa told them that his biggest birthday wish was that his family would continue to grow in light and truth and testimony of the gospel. We didn't see Lloyd much more than to blow out candles and eat his cake as the phone continued to ring with other kids calling to wish him a happy birthday as well.
We painted this weekend and sorted belongings. Through this process I was delighted to sort through my extensive book collection. I have a lot of good books. I told the kids if you read most of these you will be very smart. They are trying a few new stories as a result. I'm thrilled with Alia's progress in reading. She is happy to find so many words she knows on pages.
While we painted and sorted the kids played outside with cousins. Merle loves to race the trucks wherever he can.
He loves when Reed is home to go to work!
This was my last weekend with Addie until school is out. She accomplished a lot painting3/4 of the main rooms we live in.
Oh how the younger kids adore her.
Being sillies with the tape we were putting everywhere in preparation for fresh paint.
Millie tackled the bookshelves. I soted and sorted and worked on the bookshelves as well with Andrea insisting she help me too.
This is partly why I asked her to help she is young and strong. While I was nervous watching I was also impressed. Her very strong legs did hurt the next day from balancing for so long.
Big no on this position for me. But she got it all put together and looking nice. We should be good for another 4 years I hope!
Anna and Aliza last painting during COVID. I told Addie she should be glad to get the opportunity to learn new skills. She is becoming good at dry wall repair and understands the many steps of paint prep. Afton and Millie were disgusted to learn that most of painting is cleaning and preparing. I'm thankful for many hands to help. Life is good.
