7.11.24 4th of July activities

The rest of us got up later but in time to go run or participate in the fun run. Millie had made a date with her friend to do the 5k. I told her that was fine they just had to keep moving and not just sit and talk. Avery and Millie are big buddies.
Afton was so excited to walk with her cousin Saige.
Avery and Millie put forth a good show of running.
And of course enjoying spending time together walking and talking.
They finished successfully and enjoyed the refreshments.
Lia was happy to compete too. I intended to stay with the kids but they took off running and I was not up for running a race. Instead I walked with a friend. The time was short as we covered our one mile. We could have gone farther.

Reed refused to wear athletic wear. Remembering HArold's showing years ago in work boots and jeans he was sure he didn't need shorts but did wear tennis shoes. HE ended up running with arguably the two best athletes at the high school. Both older than he. But Reed kept up and when he wanted to quit they encouraged him to keep going. He did. Although he was sore at the end his grit showed strong and bright and he placed with a time of 23.45 beating one of the young men.

Bruce also ran hard. He is serious about his running with Addie being an example he follows.
Later in the day was the parade.  The kids always love a nice parade or free candy.

I loved the FFA float they threw out frozen ice pops.
The young mand pulling the float restored the tractor with his grandfather he was so smiley.
Millie showing her patriotic spirit.
Full bags of candy and kids enjoying a day of fun. We had gone swimming prior to the parade. Being wet was a nice way to stand in the heat of the day.

After the parade we hosted a family bbq at our house.

It was a peaceful enjoyable day full of family and friends. We are blessed to live where we do.
