3.7.20 Alivia Baptism Day

Alivia got baptized last Saturday. It was a process from the word go. From trying to schedule the appointment to make it happen to getting to the church it was a bit more challenging than in the past. Or maybe just par for the course trying to gather that many busy people in one place. Yet, it all came together and we enjoyed a nice few minutes celebrating and pondering the beauty and necessity of baptism. Alivia was super happy to be taking this most important first step toward returning to her Heavenly Father. She is a tender spirit who sees life differently, she loves and knows God and His workings. I have been intrigued watching her wake-up to the world around her in these last few months as she prepared and matured into baptism age. I learn from each of my children, she has been no exception.

One of the main challenges of the day was the call that something was on fire at home. This was not terrible news because the boys had been assigned ditch burning duty before I left. They had spent several days and nights prior working on this project it's not as easy as it sounds. The major difference this day was the velocity and direction of the winds. Hence this was the end result of one of the burns. The path of fire was only a few inches wide to the four-wheeler and to my knowledge tires don't usually ignite easily but nonetheless conditions were perfect and we now are short one four-wheeler.

You can see the ferocity of the fire, other days it just licked and spit this day it was complete burn coverage, which was nice, but more than the boys were anticipating.

Yet we were not detoured and we made it on time to the church with the right supplies and proceeded through the program.

Greg baptized and confirmed with Livy, I played the piano and spoke, Anna gave the spotlight, Grandma Corn gave her testimony and witness of the Holy Ghost and it was a night.

Addie and Aliza also took care of refreshments. They made snickers brownies and regular Brenda brownies. So yummy! It was a bit of fiasco to get all the ingredients right but they persevered and made some truly memorable treats. My dad treated the entire family to pizza after. It was nice to just take a quick break from the norm, and as he said being leap year we could do something different to commemorate the occasion.

We are thankful for the kind family who continues to support our kids through each milestone in their development. Life is good and God is in the details.
Reed told me when I finally got home, I was away at a conference so was no help with the four-wheeler problem, that he had tried to fuel it up the night before. For some reason he couldn't get it any fuel to go in the tank. Thank was a blessing. He ran across the big field to our house to get help. He ran back with Addie carrying a bucket of water. They splashed the little remaining water on the flames when they got back to the machine, but it was too little too late. A neighbor stopped and pulled them away to stand safely back to watch. Greg showed up a few minutes later to see the end there was not much that could be done. Although it was a shock all's well that ends well. No one was hurt. Having neighbors there allowed some cool down time for dad too so no one really got in trouble.
To top of the evening we found that a cat had been locked in the car overnight and had of course shared some perfume. We were dismayed and too rushed to deal with the problem. After taking out all that was removable and washing it and opening the windows for a few days, and driving our smaller cars I was overjoyed to find there was no lingering odor!!! That was such a relief.

Mark picked the remains out of the field with the loader tractor he reported there were puddles of burned aluminum metal and lots of springs left over.  Another memory made a little bigger by unconnected non-harmonious events. We were blessed even in the challenges.
